Found the application! I thought we had to have a proposal written and then submit it. So now that I've started it... what exactly is a "fiscal sponsor"?
Fiscal sponsorship is a formal arrangement in which a 501(c)(3) public charity sponsors a project that may lack exempt status. This alternative to starting your own nonprofit allows you to seek grants and solicit tax-deductible donations under your sponsor's exempt status.

There are many reasons that having a fiscal sponsor is preferred (and usually required) by grant makers. For Impact Detroit, we like to encourage individuals, block-clubs, and other affiliations to develop formal and informal relationships with local non-profit organizations to help strengthen local connections, promote collaboration, and encourage fiscal responsibility.
In many cases we know this is not possible, so just let us know and we will find someone who can serve as your fiscal sponsor for this project.
