Impact Detroit, in partnership with Detroit Future City, Hope Starts Here, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, is pleased to announce a new project funding opportunity. This process will award mini-grants ranging from $500 to $2,500 each to approximately 6-12 Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck based groups and organizations to realize quick action-oriented projects for the spring and summer of 2017.
Our Goal: To spark and cultivate small-scale innovative projects that seek to improve neighborhood environments for children and families.
We are looking for quick and actionable ways in which to improve our city and neighborhoods for it's most important long-term asset, our children. All projects should address the following questions:
How can we ensure the environment our children grow up in promotes health and happiness?
What can we do to make a direct and immediate impact? What will that impact be?
How can we make sure the change is sustainable?
Preferential consideration will be given to projects that can also respond to to the following questions:
How will children or youth be involved with planning and/or completing the project?
How could your project integrate with our annual Blight Bootcamp event on June 24th?
create a healthy space/repair possible hazardous space
indoor/outdoor play areas
Eligibility & Guidelines
We accept applications from:
Who: block clubs, schools, public libraries, preschool and Head Start programs, center or home-based child care providers, neighborhood organizations, non-profits (preference given to small and neighborhood centric groups and organizations)
Where: projects take place in and money spent in Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck
Limit: only one application per group/organization
What the mini-grant does pay for:
costs related to implementation
transportation (for participants to/from event)
labor or other direct costs
What the mini-grant doesn't pay for:
general operating costs
Important Dates & Deadlines
April 12th - Open to receive applications
May 1st - Deadline for applications in-person/physical at 5 p.m. at the Palms Building, 2111 Woodward Ave. at the front desk. For digital applications the deadline is 11:59 P.M
May 8th - Awardees notified and publicly announced
May 15th - Required awardee information session (awardees provided all documentation, agreements, evaluation questions, etc.)
Week of May 22nd - Award checks will be processed and mailed to applicants
Selection Process & Criteria
The mini-grant selection committee will be composed of Impact Detroit Network members and Hope Starts Here community engagement team members. Project proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:
How well does the project positively impact children from birth to age eight?
To what extent does the proposal involve gaining the support of children, youth and/or community members in order to be executed?
Based on what is proposed, how reasonable is the amount being requested?
